Gavin Dewar

Masters student of European Political and Governance Studies at the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium. Born and raised near Loch Lomond, Scotland, he studied History and Politics at the University of Edinburgh, where he was News Editor of « The Student » newspaper. He has worked as a trainee at the European Commission in Scotland, a student representative at the National Union of Journalists (Edinburgh), and an usher/bartender at Edinburgh Festival Theatre. He can often be found wandering in the hills daydreaming, reading, and writing.

Katalonien in den Augen eines Schotten

Die separatistischen Bewegungen in Katalonien und Spanien, die tatsächlich einige ähnliche Forderungen haben, werden häufig miteinander verglichen. Die Organisation des Unabhängigkeitsreferendums in Schottland und die Einstellung der britischen Regierung haben dennoch nichts zu mit dem zu tun, was in Katalonien seit dem Referendum am 1. Oktober passiert ist. Während die Abstimmung in Schottland, unabhängig vom Ergebnis, legal und von der britischen Regierung anerkannt war, war das katalanische Referendum illegal und einseitig sowie die Reaktion der spanischen Zentralregierung reaktionär, gewaltsam und inakzeptabel.
