Who will be the EPP Spitzenkandidat at the European elections ? Alexander Stubb unveils his programme
The big manoeuvres have already started for the succession of Jean-Claude Juncker as President of the European Commission. Within the centre-right European People’s Party (EPP), two candidates aspire to become the lead candidate (or Spitzenkandidat) of the party for the European elections : the German Manfred Weber and the Finn Alexander Stubb, who debuted his programme in Brussels on 17 October. If the EPP retains their place as the largest party within the European Parliament, the selected contender will likely become Commission President.
